Here are the basic instructions for setting up internet access on your Macintosh

MacTCP/IP Setup (classic networking for macintosh)

To set up the MacTCP/IP control panel, go to your apple menu and choose control panel.

Double click on the MacTCP/IP  control panel.

Select PPP so that it is darkened then click on the more button

Change the method of obtaining the IP address to manually

Go down and enter the gateway number 216.198.28.1

Go back up and change the method of obtaining the IP address to Server

Go down to the Domain Name server section and make two entries

the first should be domain compuvision.net and ip 216.198.29.2

the second should be domain compuvision.net and ip 216.198.0.2

The first entry should be marked as the default entry

Click OK and

Close the MacTCP/IP window

Restart your macintosh.

FreePPP, ConfigPPP, and MacPPP setup

On a macintosh the PPP control panel is what is used to dial your modem to connect to the internet. It may be called FreePPP, ConfigPPP, or MacPPP.They are all similar and are only different versions of the same product.

To set up the control panel click on your apple menu and choose Control panels

Find whichever PPP control panel you may have on your system and double-click on it.

Click on the Config... button

The ppp server name should be compuvision.net

The phone number should be 893-8100 with or without the dash. For a complete list of phone numbers click here

you do not need to use the connect script

Click on the authentication button

put in your username and password in all lower case letters

Click OK

Click OK

Click Done

Close the PPP control panel

Restart your Macintosh!
